Rugrats is Nickelodeon's most popular cartoon. In 1989, two parents named Gsapo Csupo and Arlene Klasky made the pilot for the show. Their baby son, Brendon, was their inspiration to create the Rugrats. After showing it to Nickelodeon they automatically liked it and turned it into a series. In 3 years Rugrats had aired more than 50 episodes. With a total of 65 episodes they stopped making new episodes and Rugrats was shown in primetime in 1994. That was a good move, because after that the popularity of the show increased. Nickelodeon realized what a good show they had and they decided to air brand new episodes of Rugrats in 1997. That was also a good move because it had became so popular that it had it's first movie to be shown in theaters the following year featuring a new Rugrat named Dil. After the movie, they aired even more new episodes, including Dil with them on their adventures. All was great, but this still was not enough for the Rugrats. In 2000, Nickelodeon made a second movie for the Rugrats, giving Chuckie a mom and featuring another new Rugrat named Kimi. More and more new episodes aired after that with Kimi, and in the year 2001 Nick had big plans for the show. Rugrats was in their 10th year, so Arlene Klasky and Nickelodeon decided to make the Rugrats 10 years older in the 10 year anniversary special called "All Growed Up". This episode was the most viewed episode by viewers everywhere, and it really boosted the show's popularity. Nickelodeon's plans now are to make a third movie for fall 2003. This movie, which will most likely be released in November (to match the releases of the first two), will be very different from the other two movies because it's a crossover with another popular Nickelodeon series: "The Wild Thornberrys". Rugrats is going end in 2004, but it's spin-offs are going to be just starting. ~TV tome
Salute Your Shorts
One of the shows ongoing plots was the kids always trying to annoy their councellor Kevin "Ugh" Lee. They usually succeded, as Ugh was a little on the dense side to begin with. There was also the enigmatic Dr. Con (I guess that's how he spelled his name), who was never seen, but his voice was always heard making announcements over a speaker system. Midway through the series, Michael catched chicken pox and has to leave camp. He never returns, instead he goes to Europe. He is replaced by Pinskey, who is similar to him.

Salute Your Shorts LYRICS
|We run, we jump, we swim and play. We row and go on trips
But the things that last forever are our dear friendships.
Camp Anawanna, we hold you in our hearts
Now we will share a lifetime of the fondest memories
Camp Anawanna, we hold you in our hearts
Think Anawanna. Speak Anawanna. Live Anawanna -- Ugh!
Sponge Harris: You should have never come to this camp.
Michael Stein: Why?
Sponge Harris: Because the food bites, bug bite, activities bites, everything bites!
Eddie "Donkeylips" C. Gelfen: Someday I will go out with her.
Robert "Bobby" Budnick: Stop dreaming and eat your macaroni.
Eddie "Donkeylips" C. Gelfen: I did.
Robert "Bobby" Budnick: You finishing your macaroni?
Eddie "Donkeylips" C. Gelfen: Yeah why?
Robert "Bobby" Budnick: It was uncooked macaroni covered with yellow paint.
Eddie "Donkeylips" C. Gelfen: I thought that was cheese.
Michael Stein: [Michael's first day of camp and his boxers have been stolen and are hanging on the flag pole] Great. What do I do now?
Sponge Harris: Well, I suggest you stand tall, click your heels, and salute your shorts.
Today's Special - well I don't know how many of you remember this great show, but I certainly do. It was one of my absolute favorites when I was growing up. I still have many of their old episodes on tape. I used to watch it on Nickelodean. It was produced by TV Ontario and it ran from 1981-1987. There were 122 episodes all together.
The show was about Jeff, a mannequin, who came to life when his magic hat was placed on his head and the magic words were said - "Hocus Pocus Alamagocus." This was because of the spell that Waldo the magnificent had cast on him, but to keep the spell from being broken Jeff was not allowed to leave the store. Each night, Jodie (the display designer), Sam (the night watchman), and Muffy (the mouse) would explain a basic topic of life to Jeff. The topic would usually have something to do with the title of that episode. As Jeff learned something new so did the children watching the show.

QUOTES!(70's and 80's)
I want you to close your eyes, and imagine that your mind is a great
big fist, clenched tightly. Now, feel it opening... slowly... like a
Steven: I can feel it! Here, inside my head! What's happening?
Carol: You're becoming one of us!
Steven: Who's "us"?
Carol: The Tomorrow People.
As you know, Homo sapiens, that is ordinary man, evolved over many
thousands of years, from being primitive ape-like creatures until he
became man as we know him.
Steven: Like you and me?
Carol: Well, no, not like you and me. We're different. We're Homo superior. But we don't like to call ourselves that so we call ourselves the Tomorrow People.
The development of man hasn't just suddenly stopped. It's going on all
the time. In the last hundred years, everything has speeded up. The
world has changed out of all recognition, and human beings have changed
Carol: We are man's only hope for survival. We're peaceful. We can't wage wars. And we can't kill... well, not deliberately anyway.
I wonder if all those people who are desperate to see a close encounter
of some kind have ever really thought about what it might mean.
Hsui Tai: What do you mean John?
John: Just think what happened to the African Negro and the American Indian when they came into contact with the Europeans who had more advanced technology. The Blacks were sold into slavery and the Indians almost wiped out.
Prof. Cawston: Saps, who are they?
Elizabeth 'Liz' M'Bundo: It's a bit insulting, really, it's our way of refering to Homo sapiens. Saps, you know.
Prof. Cawston: Oh, I see. You see yourselves as Homo superior then?
John: Well, I don't know about superior, but we are undoubtedly the next stage of human evolution, after Homo sapiens that is.
